Duane Cemetery : The town of Duane no longer exists, but the cemetery does - on farm property owned by the Winkler family. To reach the cemetery, travel to Beaulieu, Minnesota on White Earth Indian Reservation. Then drive seven to eight miles north on #3. There is a bale shed on the right (east) side of the road. A dirt road on the north side of the shed leads to the cemetery. The cemetery was photographed in the spring of 2002. Land Allotments : Selected records from Register of Indian allotment entries under the Nelson Act, 1901 (Minnesota Historical Society, 126.J.2.1 do) Description from the MHS site: "A schedule of land entries made in the Crookston land district for Indian allotments on the White Earth Reservation under provisions of an act of January 14, 1889, which provided for cession of most of the Ojibwe reservation land in Minnesota, concentration of the Ojibwe on the Red Lake and White Earth reservations, and opening of the remaining land to homestead entry or timber auction. The record of each allotment entry gives allotment number, Indian and/or English name of the allottee, tribal band of the allottee, legal description of the tract covered by the allotment, allottee’s age in the 1889 census or year of birth if born since 1889, blood status of allottee (full or mixed), and stamped dates apparently indicating the date a patent was issued." Records were selected for their connection to LaPrairie, Porter, Goodwin, and connected families.
